Major Garrett is following President Obama on his trip to Mexico. The President landed in Mexico City kicking off his trip.. and meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calderone. This is President Obama's first official trip south of the border and the agenda includes discussion about the battle against drug cartels, talk about the administration's immigration policy -- and meetings on trade with Mexico.
The Senate Intelligence Committee is going to hold hearings on the possibility that National Security Agency (NSA) improperly accessed phone calls and e-mails of Americans while eavesdropping on foreign communications of suspected terrorists. The administration is denying any wrongdoing and saying any mistakes that may have been made.. were just that-- Jim Angle has more.
Wendell Goler reports on Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who apologized on Fox News after a DHS report labeled returning troops a possible risk for embracing right-wing extremism. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) demanded to know why DHS wrote and released the report.
Finally, Catherine Herridge has a story about Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. Is Bagram the new Gitmo?
The panel tonight is Mara Liasson, Charles Krauthammer and Bill Kristol so tune in tonight to Special Report!
She did NOT apologize; she played the Timothy McVeigh card in her lame defense of her anti-American action. Write your senators and ask them to fire her.
Obama should have made DOS appologize to all Americans, not just the vets.
Seems like when times get a wee bit 'tuff'....Obama skips out of country...
Guess his massive ego needed more stroking so he's making nice-nice with dictators
and communists........rather than stay here and do what he was elected to do.
I tell ya all, he's using his presidency as a stepping stone on being the first
world president.
I wonder how many people around the world know he is almost speechless if it
wasn't for his soulmate, his teleprompters. It tells him what to say and how to answer questions.
I am an embarrassed democrat, who was around during the depression, and this Obama beats
it all. It's almost like having a dictator. His way or no way huh?
I so appreciate FOX NEWS and the reporting done there. The Obama Administration is proving to be the most egreious elected and appointed gathering of radicals; socialist; anti-constitutionalist ever assembled in the history of the United States. The DHS head needs to resign. The idiot that generated the report needs to be fire.

I am the past and last president of a chapter of a national Vietnam veterans group (1986-1999) that suffered loss of membership because one of the group's founders became a poster boy for false veterans of valor that expanded their military histories from the Vietnam era because of left wing views of the Vietnam veteran as problematic to their fellow veterans. Read "Stolen Valor" by B.G. Burkett.
Ms Napolitano's remarks were no apology; this was a disingenuous string of excuses, "clarifications," and obfuscations. An apology is three things: an acknowledgment of wrong, an acknowledgment of the damage done by that wrong, and a sincere expression of regret for both the wrong and the damage. Apparently Ms Napolitano was absent from school the day her first grade teacher covered that subject.
Instead, what's left is an intact memo, and classified expansion of that, that brands veterans as extremists dangerous the the US, brands protests like the just concluded TEA Parties as threats to the US, and brands speech critical of the current administration as anti-government and a threat.
Well, thanks to the blog, I'm now up to date on some of today's news... having not been at home during your show.
This is a 'styling' photo of you Bret.... handsome stance.....
It is quite a different story when the liberally biased media is covering one of their own, isn't it? This was not an apology of any known type. All Ms. Napolotono did was say, 'well if someone out there mistinterpeted the report they should be be given an apology'. What nonsense is that? Hopefully, the stupid voter won't come out in 2010, since his Dear Leader won't be on the ballot, and those who do actually pay attention will vote in a much more conservative and pro-American Congress to balance the current socialistic administration.
I was at work today so did not hear any of this, did she only apologize for the veteran thing or for everything? If she didn't then it makes her apology not worth much. Yeah it is good to take the veterans off the list but really the other things that are on there are just as insulting and really scary it you think about it, I am thiking McCarthism just not agains "communist", but against anyone who disagrees with the current house, senate and administration. People really need to think about what this means.
Your DEA piece was another predictable socially conservative propping up of the War of Drugs that has failed for DECADES. If your reporter was honest with viewers (fair and balanced), you would point out that the most dangerous and deadly mind-altering drugs has been, currently is, and will always be alcohol (50% of all auto fatalities is caused by drunk driving) and tobacco (cancer, anyone?). Are you going to call for the return of Prohibition? The drug cartels in Mexico are nothing different from the bootleggers during Prohibition. If you want to cripple the drug cartels, decriminalize the current batch of illegal drugs. It is really that simple.
And, just for the record, I don't do what are considered currently illegal drugs. For that matter, I don't drink alcohol or smoke tobacco either. This isn't to say I don't have my vices. I'm afraid I have yet to meet a piece of beef jerky that I haven't chewed down.
As for The Panel, I'm a bit confused. It seemed as if Charles Krauthammer contradicted himself from just a day or two ago about the report on vets becoming terrorists. Am I wrong?
As for your parting humor piece, that was great! Very funny. Also a good way encourage more viewers to join the online part of the show.
What apology? I listened to her carefully and all I heard was the old political trick of lapsing into the 3rd person "an apology is owed". That isn't even in the same universe as "I'm sorry, it was a horrible mistake." In the real world, when someone apologizes they generally start out by saying "I'm sorry". Not Janet, so it wasn't a real apology.
I am over 75 years old and because I am conservation I feel like Bill Buckley's little old lady being pushed around by Obama's Napoleonitano. Do you think when she grows up she will discover we are actually patriots?

Democrat Bobby Rush (just) Supported a Violent Dictator Fidel Castro. Democrat Bill Delahunt supports Hugo Chavez , who is Now known as South American 1st Fascist leader. Both these Dictators TORTURE
(Chavez & Castro) without reason just to control their population . Clearly One can see that some Democrats SUPPORT Torture based on the region or Dictator doing it. The point is that with these recent
trips to visit Chavez or Castro , the democrats have Lost much of their Moral Authority.
Janet has labeled every religious person, pro-life, veteran, basically if you disagree with Obama you are considered a likely terrorist (note previously stopped using the word terroist). If you were worried about the Patriot Act you haven't seen anything yet. They just gave the police the right to pull you over for that 'Don't Thread On Me' bumper sticker.
The apology was not Janet's first response !!! I suspect her first response "I stick by the report" was mostly likely the honest response.
Janet did not apologize to Vets or anyone else, she only showed remorse for the wording of the footnote.
Does the Government read anything that they sign to either be released or made into law. I guess it would cut into their press time (makeup prep is important), or the Presidents World Tour...

"To the extent veterans read it as an accusation ... an apology is owed..." - that isn't an apology. Why don't you guys call it the way it is?
