    Sec. of HHS in question??

The last cabinet position to be filled is that of Secretary of Health and Human Services. This position, of course, is still open after former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle pulled his name out of consideration because of tax problems. Now, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius is the nominee and her nomination was voted out of committee and she is awaiting a full Senate confirmation vote.  BUT...there may be a few problems.

Just yesterday, Governor Sebelius vetoed a bill that would rewrite Kansas state law restricting late-term abortions.  The measure she vetoed would have required doctors performing late-term abortions to report information on the procedures to the state government.  Sebelius says the bill could have led to intimidation of doctors.  Add this to the adjustment that Sebelius had to make on her nomination disclosure forms about money that she accepted from a late-term abortion doctor...and you have building opposition on the right.  So much so, that there are some questions about the vote--even senior Democratic aides concede it will be tight (although they say they have the votes).  Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has scheduled a vote on the Senate floor on the Sebelius nomination Tuesday night.  The threshold for confirmation is 60 votes...so Reid will need all of his Democratic colleagues to vote for confirmation and he'll need two Republicans.  The GOP leadership says it will be VERY close...and if...Sebelius' nomination somehow goes down--it would be a HUGE blow to the administration.  (Although Senator Reid wouldn't  have scheduled the vote if he didn't think he could deliver).  So you have social conservatives trying to rally Republicans-Republican Senator Pat Roberts from Kansas says he WILL vote for her...but Republican Senator Sam Brownback also from Kansas is not sure...according to his staff.

The veto of the late-term abortion notification bill in Kansas only fired up opponents..here's a release from Republican Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina: "The overwhelming majority of Americans oppose late-term abortions of babies that can survive on their own, but Governor Sebelius clearly believes there are no limits to taking the life of innocent unborn children.   Governor Sebelius' veto of  a common sense bill to reduce late term abortions is an insult to Americans who respect human dignity.  This is a clear example of the Governor's extreme pro-abortion agenda that should disqualify her from leading our nation's health agency. President Obama should withdraw her nomination and keep his promise to reduce abortions, not promote politicians that seek to reverse decades of bipartisan progress on this important issue."

When will the Kansas senators remove their support?

Sounds like we have another fine representative of what’s wrong with the Democratic party, to represent America. Don’t the Left have one decent human being among them that they could nominate for a cabinet post? This is really getting old! (Training Wheels!) Cheese
