Economic hardships, presidential meetings, universal health care and....GM

According to the government, the number of people requesting jobless benefits fell last week, however, the number of people receiving unemployment benefits rose to 6.78 million. White House economic officials said yesterday that the economic stimulus plan has created or saved 150,ooo jobs with President Obama promising it would help to create or retain at least 3 million jobs when it was first introduced to Congress.   However -- those numbers are impossible to verify -- when millions of people have LOST jobs -- it's tough to gage how many were SAVED.. and even the government doesn't provide those specifics.   Jared Bernstein, chief economic advisor to Vice President Biden, said "in every state across this country people are at work who would not have been so but for the measure of this act."    "The fact that the unemployment rate is going up or the fact that we are losing jobs, again, should not be taken as evidence that the plan is ineffective," Bernstein added---  And the President thinks the economy has "stepped back from the brink".   Wendel Goler reports on the state of the economy.

President Obama is meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the White House today. President Abbas will discuss his pan-Arab peace plan, abbaswhile the Obama administration has made it clear that it is opposed to Israel's settlement building in the West Bank. The settlements - they say- create a hindrance to the peace process, which will be stressed by President Abbas in his discussions with the President....Major Garrett has the latest on this meeting and the Arab Peace Process before the President heads overseas.

Yesterday, Shannon Bream had a report for us about Sonia Sotomayor and her background on the ever-important issue for any Supreme Court justice... abortion.   Tonight Shannon looks closer at Sotomayor's stance on gun control.    Jim Angle has a great piece for us on health care-- and the big question... how does the Obama administration plan to pay for health care for all Americans? Currently, the  President's budget calls for $634 billion to be set aside for health care and Congress is looking at ways to raise revenue for the program.

Peter Barnes is here with the latest on  GM and the auto industry as they make a new offer to bondholders. Eric Shawn from New York has a new story on ACORN and William LaJeunesse in Los Angeles has a surprising report on the cost of health care for prisoners.

The panel tonight is Charles Krauthammer, Juan Williams and Steve Hayes--discussing the Mideast and Sotomayor on abortion and gun control. Thank-you to everyone for tuning in to the online show last night and if you missed it be sure to catch it next Wednesday!

Of course The Government doesn't provide statistics.. for, if they did they would have to admit that their plan to create jobs simply isn't working and, we all know that our current Government is simply NEVER WRONG!! Not... As to GM, time to just 'let go.' Sad, but true... Thanks Bret, Marci.<:))

Jobs saved is an easy way of gaining ground without having to actually verify anything. It's like that hair commercial, the man saying he would sell tires without death crystals, because they don't have to be shown to actually exist for you to feel better to have the information, and those tires as well. Eric Holder must have been speaking of the 'jobs saved' argument when he spoke of a nation of cowards, because it sure is a very 'yellow' way of showing, or more precisely imposing, positive notions towards something not so positive in the end. In the Mid-East, there is not so much a problem with the settlement building in the West Bank as there is with the connotation is brings, an expanding and ever growing Israel within territories once not held by them. Insult upon injury is what it looks like, but I do not denote their right to build into land they have taken, as thats not the issue. The issue overshadowing what is really going on is that this 'stopping of the settlement building' will be not so much an actual loss to Israel but a symbolic form of stopping their growing and expanding, and until we take real actions with real leaders there will never be real steps toward a solution. On a side note, I love watching Special Report. Bret does an amazing job, especially with the panel and most potently when Charles Krauthammer is there, which is most of the time thankfully. Also, the commentaries by former-host Brit Hume are always right on the point. Bret,...

It is completely absurd for any one person to claim credit for economical growth or deserve blame for contraction, and for exactly the same reason that increases in consumer confidence cannot alone cause the economy to grow. How do these perfectly irrational bases for macro-beliefs gain any credibility, anyway?

How can the Govenrment think they can run a Health Care Department that will not show any type of revenue, when they can't even run the Social Security Department that does make money. Will the wait time to see a Physician be as long as it is to be declared disabled? Will they have gate keepers that will determine if you are sick enough to see a Physician? This is the problem with the Social Security Department. I have been disabled for more than two years. Yet the gate keepers in Florida say I am healthy enough to go to work. They look at the paper work submitted by my Physicains and look at their eligibilty list and say go to work. Now, I can not walk without severe pain in my legs, I had a massive heart attack which led to triple bypass, I had a femoral bypass, and now because of the heart damage, I have shortness of breath. This all happened within ten months. I have been denied twice on my request for disability. Now my wait time for an appeal is at least 22 more months. I am not asking for free money. I have worked hard for 45 years and contributed my portion to the SS tax. Lets see how Obama handles the details of a Universal Health Care Plan. More people will be using the Emergency Department Phsicians as their Primary Care Physician. SO overall cost of health care will go up and Hospitals will be the next GM asking for a bail out. Obamas' spending will just keep increasing. No end in sight.
